Today, Jack Hines heads a group of companies well known around the world as international trading merchants of meat products, seafood, wines and food products.
The group trades with buyers in some 50 countries, ranging from importers, supermarkets and distributors to government buying agencies.
Jack Hines carried on the highly principled family tradition when he joined the family business in the early 1960s and he was involved in the sale of the scrap metal operations to a large Australian company in 1973. It was at that time that the company changed its direction to become international traders. Jack’s entrepreneurial skills built an export business in waste paper, the importation of a wide range of consumer goods and, through a chance remark made at an overseas business meeting, the group started a meat export business. Meat trading has formed the cornerstone of the group’s activities over the years and became a springboard for diversification into exports of wines and a large range of different foods.
The receipt of export awards in 1979 and 1991 from the Australian Government recognised the group’s success in the export arenas. As the export activities expanded, the family acquired real estate including industrial, retail and commercial buildings, all of which provide a strong asset base for the group.
On January 5th 1987, the company’s founder and chairman, Gus Hines, OBE, JP, passed away. Today Jack and his sons and their family interests carry on the proud Hines spirit and tradition through a wide range of different business interests.
